U.S. Passport back in global Top 10 despite long‑term slide

The latest Henley Passport Index 2026 shows a shifting global mobility landscape, with Singapore retaining the world’s most powerful passport, offering visa‑free access to more than 190 destinations. Japan and South Korea follow closely, while European states dominate the middle of the ranking. After briefly falling out in late 2025, the United States has returned to the Top 10, now placed at number 10 with visa‑free entry to 179 countries — a notable comeback but one that masks a decades‑long decline in travel freedom for American passport holders. The report highlights how diplomatic ties and international security perceptions are reshaping passport strength worldwide.
