The relationship between Eric Dane and Rebecca Gayheart was never easy to define. Over more than two decades, their bond shifted through marriage, separation, reconciliation, and deep friendship. Although they eventually lived apart and dated other people, they remained legally married and continued to share a close connection centered on their two daughters. As he navigated the challenges of the progressive illness, Gayheart stood by him as a consistent source of support. She, in turn, emphasized her commitment to showing up for him and for their daughters with dignity and compassion. When Dane passed away in February 2026 at age 53, his family confirmed that he spent his final days surrounded by loved ones, including Gayheart and their children.
