Science shows why roosters don’t go deaf from their own crowing

Anyone who lives in the countryside knows that in the morning, roosters are likely to wake them up.
Researchers found that the rooster’s crowing is very loud, reaching up to 140 decibels, well above the level that causes permanent hearing damage.

They also found that their hearing is preserved because when they open their jaws to crow, their external ear canals close, acting as natural earplugs.
